Making a backup from your Silhouette Files

For making a backup from your Silhouette files you have to make your hidden folders visible. Go to organize->folder and search options->”view” tab…
This folder name shows up in other places, but the one located in “Program Data” is the one that has your library. It’s updated anytime you add/delete in the library.

For Windows 7 copy this directory:
C :\ProgramData\com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.8
and if you have purchased a license for the designer version you also have to copy this directory:
C :\ProgramData\com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.license

For Window Vista copy this directory:
C:\DocumentsandSettings\AllUsers\ApplicationData\com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.8
and if you have purchased a license for the designer version you also have to copy this directory:
C:\DocumentsandSettings\AllUsers\ApplicationData\com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.license

Mac: Please open your “Finder” program and go to Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.8.

Om je Silhouettebestanden te kunnen backuppen moet je eerst je verborgen folders zichtbaar maken. Ga naar de verkenner en klik op de C schijf.
Klik in de menubalk op extra – mapopties
Kijk of “alle mappen weergeven” aangevinkt staat.
Klik op het tabblad “weergave”
Scrol naar “Verborgen bestanden en mappen en vink “verborgen bestanden, mappen en stations weergeven” aan!
Voor het backuppen van je silhouettebestanden kopieer je de volgende directories in zijn geheel.

Voor Windows 7 kopieer deze directory:
C :\ProgramData\com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.8
en als je een license voor de uitgebreide software hebt gekocht, ook deze:
C :\ProgramData\com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.license

In Windows Vista kopieer je de volgende directories:
C:\DocumentsandSettings\AllUsers\ApplicationData\com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.8
en als je een license voor de uitgebreide software hebt gekocht, ook deze:
C:\DocumentsandSettings\AllUsers\ApplicationData\com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.license

Please read the “rules” and the “how does dropbox work” files, placed in my dropbox directories . I had to remove several “new” directories, made by other people in my dropbox directories. So please, read how it works!

Willen jullie aub de “regels” en “hoe werkt dropbox” lezen, geplaatst in mijn dropbox directories. Ik heb al diverse “nieuwe” directories moeten verwijderen, aangemaakt door andere mensen in mijn dropboxdirectories. Dus lees even hoe het werkt!

Already dropbox installed and wanting the free files in the future?

If you already have dropbox installed you cannot participate in the 30 free files. You can however participate in the upcoming free files, you just have to tell me you already have dropbox installed and I will send you the join link for the new files.

Als je dropbox al geinstalleerd hebt op je PC kun je niet mee doen aan de actie van 30 gratis files. Je kunt je echter wel opgeven voor de komende gratis file, je moet dan alleen even aangeven dat je dropbox al had geinstalleerd, dan zal ik je de “join” link sturen voor de nieuwe files.

Since a few months i am using dropbox for my free files, so you don’t have to wait when you want to download a free file, like with 4shared. With Dropbox you have always acces to your files, where ever you are. But since you get only 2 gig for free, I need more space and I can get it for free if people join Dropbox through me, I want to make you all a deal.
If you want to use dropbox as well and want to install it on your PC so you have acces to your files in the whole world, leave me a message at this blogentry (make sure you leave a proper emailaddress, not in the message itself of course. I then will send you an invitation to join dropbox, you join Dropbox through the link in that invitation and when you have installed it, I get the message that you did so and i will give you acces to the free files folder in my dropbox. There are 30 files in this folder, random picked out of the shop, but also files wich are never published before. The files are all SVG files!
I won’t stop with giving free files through my blog, but this does mean that in the future I will place more free files in Dropbox which can only be downloaded by Dropbox users! But Dropbox is also for free, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

As soon as you have acces to the free files, just copy them to your personal computer, because they won’t stay in the Dropbox forever!

Sinds een paar maanden gebruik ik dropbox voor mijn gratis files, zodat jullie niet hoeven te wachten als je een file wilt downloaden, zoals bij 4hared. Met Dropbox heb je altijd toegang tot je files, waar je ook bent. Maar aangezien je maar 2 gig gratis krijgt, ik meer ruimte nodig heb en ik er meer gratis bij kan krijgen als andere mensen via mij ook Dropbox installeren maak ik een deal met je.
Wil je ook Dropbox gebruiken en installeren op je PC zodat je overal toegang hebt tot je bestanden, waar je ook bent in de wereld, laat dan een bericht achter bij deze blogentry (zorg ervoor dat je een correct emailadres achterlaat, niet in het bericht zelf natuurlijk). Ik stuur je dan een invitatie “to join Dropbox” en wanneer je je via de link in die invitatie hebt aangemeld en het hebt geinstalleerd krijg ik daar bericht van en zal ik je toegang geven tot de folder met de gratis files in mijn Dropbox. Er zitten 30 files in de folder, willekeurig uitgezocht uit de winkel, maar ook files die nog niet gepubliceerd zijn. De files zijn alleen SVG files!
Ik zal niet stoppen met het geven van gratis files via mijn blog, maar dit betekent dat er in de toekomst meer gratis files geplaatst gaan worden die alleen door Dropboxgebruikers gedownload kunnen worden. Maar Dropbox is ook gratis, dus dat zou geen probleem moeten zijn.

Wanneer je toegang hebt gekregen tot de gratis files, kopieer ze dan naar je eigen PC, want ze zullen niet altijd in Dropbox blijven staan!

How do I work

Since I am selling my files instead of giving them all away for free, there are people spamming my blog, bothering me about seeing some of my SVG files on other places. So let me tell you how I work.

If I don’t make a file from scratch myself it’s possible that I use images from the internet, to make them into SVG files. Most of the time the images are too small to use in one way or another, so I recreate them in PSP and then convert them into SVG files. I’m not claiming that all of my files are my idea, I only claim to have made them into SVG files myself. Since that takes me a lot of time, I ask a small fee for the SVG files.

I use the idea’s from others, who don’t make SVG files, to turn their idea’s into SVG files. Like they do themselves as well. I will give you an example. I think the first company who made scalloped circles was Sizzix, then we saw them at Spellbinders, Cricut, Silhouette and about every other die or cut company. And that’s the case with most images of all of these companies. Look for example at the font cartridges of Cricut, similar fonts where for free for many years before they came with those font cartridges. The labels of the silhouette look a lot like those of spellbinders and Sizzix… etc. There are however no copyrights on the idea’s themselves. That’s the reason we see the same images everywhere, but all in different formats, dies, gsd files, cartridges, Svg files…etc.

New Software Cricut Craftroom; Goodbye Privacy

I don’t know about all of you, but i got an invitation to test the new online Cricut software called Cricut Craftroom. I have installed it and the first thing I noticed was that you have to log in to be able to use it. So goodbye privacy. This was a huge issue for me and since the only thing they added was the “group all” function and deleted the preview function I have deinstalled it. If it was a programm which I could install at my PC without having to go online, I would have used it, but now I stick to CDS.

I would love to hear what you think of ”Cricut Craftroom”!

Ik weet niet hoe het met jullie zit, maar ik kreeg een uitnodiging om de nieuwe online Cricut software, Cricut Craftroom genoemd, te testen. Ik heb het geinstalleerd en het eerste wat mij opviel was dat je moest inloggen om het te kunnen gebruiken. Dus zeg maar dag tegen je privacy. Dit vond ik echt heel vervelend en omdat ze alleen de functie “group all’” hebben toegevoegd en de preview functie eruit hebben gehaald heb ik het gedeinstalleerd. Als het een programma was geweest wat ik op mijn PC kon installeren, zonder dat ik daarbij online moest gaan, had ik het gebruikt, maar nu gaan we maar verder met CDS.

Ik zou graag van jullie horen wat jullie van “Cricut Craftroom” van vinden!

Warning: Don’t update your Scal, Make the Cut or Cricut Firmware. Scal and Make the Cut no longer support the Cricut.
As long as you don’t update your software or firmware, it should still work. Make sure to make a backup of your latest software in case your PC crashes. I advise you to ask for a refund, since the reason you bought the program has been canceled, because Scal and Make the Cut no longer support the Cricut.

I bought myself a Silhouette SD. Great machine with a perfect print and cut function. You don’t have to buy those expensive cartridges with lots of images you never use, you can make your own, or you can choose from millions of files in the store, so you can pick the ones you really want and there are also a lot of other people offering their files for free or for a small fee. The software allows you to do the same things as Scal and Make the cut and it’s free. You can import DFX or GSD files and you can also trace images.

From now on I will be offering my new files as SVG’s, DFX and/or Studio files. SVG’s can still be loaded in all the machines above and the DFX files can be loaded in the Silhouette and the Robocraft. The Studiofiles can be loaded in the Silhouette only.

In fall I will start to convert my old files into the new formats as well.

Scal en Make the Cut werken niet langer samen met de Cricut. Zolang je je software en je firmware niet update zou het moeten blijven werken. Zorg er dus voor dat je de laatste versie van deze software veilig stelt op een CD in het geval je PC crasht. Ik adviseer je een refund aan te vragen omdat de reden waarom je het programma kocht niet meer bestaat, namelijk dat Scal of Make the Cut samenwerken met de cricut.

Ik heb een Silhouette SD gekocht. Een goede machine met een perfecte print en cutfunctie. Je hoeft geen dure cartridges te kopen met allemaal plaatjes die je toch bijna nooit gebruikt. Je kunt je eigen snijfiles ontwerpen. Je kunt files per stuk kopen in de silhouettewinkel, zodat je die files kunt kiezen die je echt wilt hebben. Ook zijn er veel anderen die hun files gratis of voor een klein bedrag aanbieden. De software geeft je dezelfde mogelijkheden als Scal en Make the cut en is gratis. Je kunt DFX en GSD files inporteren en je kunt ook plaatjes laten traceren.

Vanaf nu zal ik mijn nieuwe files aanbieden als SVG’s, DFX files en/of Studio files. SVG’s kunnen nog steeds door alle bovenstaande machines worden gebruikt. DFX files zijn geschikt voor de Silhouette en de Robocraft. Studiofiles kunnen alleen gelezen worden door de Silhouette.

In het najaar zal ik zoveel mogelijk oude files converteren naar de nieuwe formaten.
