I have a photo of me standing in the large "wooden Shoes" at the tulip garden (Sorry, can't remember the name) outside of Amsterdam. This cute file will be great. Thanks - you are so talented.

My grandfather was from Rotterdam, moving to the states at age 6. I would love the wooden shoes for a recipe book of my great-grandmothers. thanks

I think I want to know how they get klompen to fit your foot accurately as they carve them from the INSIDE, not the outside to fit your foot like leather! I had no idea that they are more warm than regular shoes, but can see that they would be with a good pair of wool socks. I live in california in the USA, so we have no need of wooden shoes here, LOL. But my parents and grandmother had such nice blue and white china with Dutch themes, and I have a cookie jar with two kissing Dutch children with the boy in pantaloons, the girl in the typical 'angel wing' type cap, and both wearing clompen.. Thanks for sharing this...

I love these wooden shoes. I used to have a miniature pair years ago and they were always on display. Thank you for bringing back memories.

Oh, these are too cute! I have a pair of klompen on a table in my living room. They were my grandmother's, and she passed them to my father and he to me. My siblings and I loved to run around in them when we were little. And I can't wait for my own children to play with them. My grandmother died when my dad was just a baby, so it is special to have these in memory of her.

I am not sure if she wore them, I think they were ornamental or just a souvenir to take with her when she came to America. It is very interesting to know some still wear them. Thank you for writing of them!
